Overwatch 2 SEC Fall Split Preview

Overwatch is constantly evolving, and so is the SEC in their new Sol/Luna split, which will see over a dozen teams competing for gold amid Juno and the new challenges and opportunities she brings.

The world of Overwatch is hectic right now. Juno's addition was quite controversial, coming with an insane movement bug and insanely strong Dive comps. Meanwhile, Blizzard playtests 6v6, right as longtime players have found their groove with 5v5. Regardless of the chaos, Southern Esports Conference has already begun to put on a great show, four weeks into their split for Fall 2024.

Occurring in a round-robin format from September 9th to October 28th, playoffs from November 4th to 22nd, and a bye week in the middle, the 2024 Fall Split will end with three teams in a double-elimination bracket.

If you want to get up to speed...use Juno's ult. But if you want to know a bit about each team currently competing, read ahead!

Auburn

Auburn played up until the grand finals in SEC's Challengers' bracket, and lost 4-1. They are looking to bounce back in the Fall Split with a powerful tank/Juno dive comp and Mei/Ram Brawl comp. A wealth of new players like absol and sk8brdr are raring to prove their prowess in the SEC.

Florida

The Gators are quite excited to have a new speed character in Juno. Despite 4 of their 5 team members being completely new to the UF OW team, they took an impressive 3-1 victory against South Carolina.

Georgia Tech

Following last year's victory, Georgia Tech shows no signs of slowing down, taking full advantage of the new D.Va/Juno meta. The entire team is graduating next Spring, so there's no telling who will pick up the mantle after next semester.

Kentucky

A Reinhardt rush comp is the centerpiece of this team - all their players graduated last year, so it's a new team, yet with the same level of passion for the game. It being Sargon and King's first years on, they expect to face several Ram brawl and Juno dive comps on their road to victory.

South Carolina

USC tried out a D.Va/Juno comp in their first match but could have found better success with it. They'll try their hand in the coming weeks with some Winston-centered dive comps, with a new DPS player (Aerin) and one returning from the 2023 Fall split (Arrow).

Tennessee

With a nationally ranked Reaper/Brigette by the name of Legacy, and a 1st place victory in the Appalachian Cup, Tennessee is confident in their ability to take gold. Their team rosters are built from the ground up, pulling players around campus rather than through scholarships, including a deadly hitscan main by the name of Grizzly.

Texas Tech

The prior victors of the SEC 2023 Fall split, TTU claims to favor rush/poke comps, and are planning to bring home some titles for their school and prove their two new DPS players. They are no doubt raring to run it back with trophy-holder GT after a close 3-1 loss in Week 1.

Texas A&M

An incredibly versatile team for comps, who is currently favoring D.Va/Juno, though are a bit disappointed by the recent Winston nerfs. Despite a mid-season swap of tank players last season, TAMU is looking to adapt to the new meta however they need to take gold.

UT Austin

Consistently placing top 4 in both previous splits at SEC, Austin is currently focusing on a Brawl comp and is looking to run it back against Auburn, and hoping for a shake-up in the next OW season's balance changes. They sometimes like to run a Mercy support and have a brand new player, Azul.

Virginia Tech

With consistent top 64 placements in all tournaments, Virginia Tech has been honing their use of Juno's Speed Ring in preparation for the split, though they favor brawl comps (and gacha games).

West Virginia

WVU's team is a club team, so all their funding is out-of-pocket, and yet their tank HITSVAPE is top 20 on the leaderboards and their support player, Yurei, feels confident in Juno. WVU had little scrimmage time at the start of the split but still managed to take down Florida 3-1.
