Sol Overwatch Split Playoffs 2024 Preview

One decisive tournament between six Overwatch 2 teams will determine entrance to the 2025 Magnus Split. Let's take a look at the teams and what we can expect these next few weeks.

Southern Esports Conference's top Overwatch teams are gearing up for the playoffs. Six teams - the top three from Lux and Nox - will face each other to win a ticket to the Magnus Split next year.

Playoff matches will be played in a double-elimination bracket - all teams start off in the same bracket, with the losing teams knocked down to a seperate bracket where they then face off against each other to reach the undefeated team waiting at Grand Finals.

Matches begin November 6th, with the following teams:

TEXAS A&M VS TENNESSEE

Excluding a close loss against Texas Tech, Tennessee has blown through their regular season matches and shown they're a force to be reckoned with in the playoff bracket, not a surprise given their several (non-SEC) Overwatch accolades and awards.

Texas A&M started the split off well enough, with 3-1 finishes against West Virginia, Texas Tech, and UCF, but hit their stride when they took Auburn and Virginia Tech 3-0. With that, TAMU sits undefeated, with 3-0 wins against 2/3 playoff Nox teams. It's a sharp contrast to the last split, where mid-season roster shakeups prevented a clear path to the playoffs.

AUBURN VS VIRGINIA TECH

Auburn University lost to Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Texas A&M this past regular season. With all of Lux's playoff teams having gotten the upper hand against Auburn in their matches, it calls into question what Auburn is going to do to change things up and make better strides for playoffs. For more on Auburn University, see our interview with support player Daniel Reyes.

Similarly, Virginia Tech took losses from Lux, so it looks to be a pretty even match against Auburn. With regards to their loss against Tennessee, team commissioner Avacyn claimed the results inspired them to run even more scrimmages and VOD reviews. It'll certainly be an exciting match if they are able to run it back in playoffs, but they'll have to get through Auburn first.

The former champions of the Southern Esports Conference, Texas Tech, got a bye, as they finished first in the Nox division. They'll be facing the winner of Virginia Tech and Auburn.

Georgia Tech, current champ of the Lux division, also got a bye - they're poised to take on the winner of Texas A&M and Tennessee.

Author's Note: Congrats to Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn on their wins so far!
